I left Amherst the other day. How sad for me. It's funny, but I am feeling most affected by my empty office, which is now so devoid of... well, me. I also said goodbye to my lab. It was never really mine, but I considered myself the caretaker, ensuring organization, functionality, and equipment upkeep for all who crossed its technical threshold.
To be frank (which, I often am), UMass, specifically my office, lab, and Raos (the local cafe), are the places where I invested vast quantities of time, energy, hard work, and myself for the purpose of becoming the researcher and professional I am today. Amherst is the physical space that represents the last six years of ethereal personal and professional development. It is the place where I gained some of my greatest friends and confidants. Ho hum...

Full steam ahead!
For all of you out there who give a rat's patoot, you already know these three things about me:
1) I am heading to the Univ. of W. Australia in Perth in the beginning of September for a short post-doc position, which is pretty rad.
2) I am engaged to Shawn and the wedding date is June 7, 2008.
3) I am freaking out because I have a bazillion things to do before I leave. Mainly: pack and move my entire apartment, work on wrapping up at UMass, and (not to worry, there is more...) find a photographer and mail out save the dates for the wedding.
I can handle it though... really... I can.
So.... anyhow, here is my blog where I will be keeping friends and family posted about my trip down under. Check back.... you might be mildly entertained. If not, then sorry, but I can't promise much right now.
I am so excited to go!
